PREP Happenings: Mulberry SS15 RTW Launch

We were recently at Mulberry’s garden themed launch of their SS15 Ready To Wear collection. Floral prints and bright hues featured strongly this season and we were at a complete loss as to which item to try on first!!

Some of our PREP Members were able to attend the garden-themed afternoon tea event where they were served champagne & canapes as they shopped. We loved how our PREP Members dropped by PREP first to get blowouts before attending the event in style.

The posie making workshop by Dan Takeda was also such a treat for the guests as they learnt to put together their own floral arrangements to take home.

Thank you Mulberry and Club 21 for having us and our guests, we had a blast!!

PREP Picks: Angie Chen

imageedit_3_9544890157 copy

Passionate and colorful. Dynamic and vibrant. That’s how Angie Chen lives life, with the occasional pause to reflect and nestle in some down-time with her family over good food. Her ideal weekend is always the perfect balance of both creature comforts and venturing out to explore the new.

It is not surprising then that she names New York and London as her favourite travel destinations, where she relishes in taking in the vibrancy and dynamism the arts, music, food and fashion scene in those cities have to offer. Her love of the vivid and the unique runs through her exuberant approach to life and her wardrobe. As the curator for THE FIFITH COLLECTION, Angie lends her vibrant yet impeccably chic and refined taste, and detailed eye to the selection of the choicest vintage pieces for the online store.

We have the pleasure of having Angie share with us some of her current loves and obsessions. Enjoy!

PREP Picks - Angie

1. Vintage Christian Lacroix: “I have always been a big fan of Lacroix for his intricate and opulent designs, but this year I am determined to stop buying fast fashion and collect everything Lacroix due to the historical value of each piece.”

2. Le Cinéma Olfactif by Folie A Plusiers Perfumes: “A good friend of mine in Berlin started this perfume project with perfumer Mark Buxton (of Comme des Garcons fame) to create fragrances inspired by films. My personal favourites from this series are Mood Indigo and Virigin Suicides. They smell exactly like what the movie should be.”

3. Glamglow Supermud: “This is my daily solution to the clogged pores in my otherwise clear skin. Such a lifesaver for those problem areas and my skin always feels so smooth after each use.”

4. Benoit Missolin Headgear: “The perfect balance of quirkiness and elegance, a Benoit piece always adds that extra style oomph to my outfits.”

5. Tangle Teezer Comb: “This is my answer to reviving flat and lifeless-looking hair. I reach for it at the end of a long work day to give my hair that gorgeous, voluminous boost.”

PREP Happenings: February 2015

A very belated 新年快乐 to all you PREP-stars! February was definitely a month for food, festivities and fab hair what with Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year within a week of each other. We were up to 12 in our steamboat count and if February was a month for feasting and merriment, March would be the one for detoxing and loosening our belts (in all manner of the phrase). We hope you celebrated in a big way and took the chance to make merry with loved ones and spend some time enjoying the spirit of the holidays!

New York-based DKNY is a brand that captures the life and essence of the city - international, eclectic, fast-paced and real. Our very own Jacqueline had the chance to shoot the brand’s latest fashion and accessories offerings, modelled by the beautiful Yvette King. In this fashion shoot collaboration with Club 21, Yvette had her hair done by yours truly in a natural, yet perfectly polished true-to-New Yorker style - sleek on the top with subtle tousled waves at the ends.

For Valentine’s Day, Rockstar celebrated the day of love by inviting ladies to share a photo of their favourite girl pals. The winner stood a chance to win a #MostEpicValentinesDay with complete outfit makeovers, pampering hair blowouts at PREP, beauty goodie bags from Benefit and a Valentine’s Day dinner at Overeasy! The winning entry garnered over 800 votes and this lucky group of ladies had an awesome, super girly Valentine’s Day.

PREP Happenings: January 2015

Are we already halfway through the 2nd month of 2015? January flew by almost too quickly and Team PREP has kept busy with the upcoming launch of our new store, on top of exciting collaborations with both new and regular partners on a couple of events and shows. We are excited to share with you the highlights of our January.

PREP stylist and updo extraordinaire Maurice got a chance to showcase his beautiful work at the Mandarin Hotel Bridal Show. He demonstrated two different gorgeous bridal styles to a room of glowing brides-to-be and PREP stylists Sherman and Xavier were also in attendance at our own PREP booth to give the ladies a peek of the beautiful looks they could create for their special day.

The St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is an annual event showcasing new and revered seminal music and since its beginnings in 2004, has always been a forerunner in finding the freshest sounds and bringing them to unique settings. This year’s festival was held at The Meadow, Gardens By The Bay for the 5th year running and a mix of Singaporean, Malaysian and international acts played to a sold-out crowd of 13,000.

This year, PREP joined the Underscore Magazine team and shared tent space with Kith Cafe, Triceratops and other cool brands. We brought our own dose of festival fun and fab hair to the music event in the form of a fun braid bar. Our hip PREP stylists Cat and Effa had a little break from the looks they usually styled for formal and bridal occasions, and had a lot of fun creating braided styles to match the festival vibe.

PREP Press: Jacqueline Chang in URBAN The Bag Page

Our PREP co-founder and ladyboss Jacqueline Chang was recently featured in URBAN’s The Bag Page. We’re always mad proud of what an amazing and creative individual she is, and dedicate the following space to sharing this great feature by way of a humble brag. And if you cannot get enough of Jac like we do, you can also read the article here.

PREP Picks: Jacelyn Soh

At PREP, we’ve the privilege of working with some of the most amazing, stylish, passionate and inspiring people around and we want to give you a glimpse of some of the things these style-makers and scene-stealers are currently loving and obsessing over. To kick off the “PREP Picks” series, it’s our own Jacelyn Soh, one-third of PREP and all-round sweetheart and animal lover.

The number-cruncher in the trio of PREP lady bosses, Jacelyn is always the picture of cool, collected chic with her classic and modern style. A self-confessed homebody she loves nothing more than a night in with a home-cooked meal surrounded by two of the greatest loves of her life - husband Andrew and furbaby Max. While this might sound seemingly contradictory, she also loves the exposure to the new and unique tastes and sights that travel brings, and names Italy with its fabulous dining scene and luscious scenery, as one of her all-time favourite travel destinations.

Here are her current loves and obsessions:

1. Clé de Peau Beauté Concealor: “My everyday cheat-stick to natural, flawless skin. I never leave home without this!”

2. Chanel Espadrilles: “These are my dressed-for-comfort shoes. They’re casual but stylish enough that I don’t feel or look sloppy in them.”

3. Le Creuset Dutch Oven in Caribbean: “I’ve been learning to cook recently and this is perfect for making broths and stews in. Great for any rookie, wannabe home-cooks because it cooks everything so evenly and beautifully.”

4. Cranberry Almond Granola from The Edible Company: “I have to have this for breakfast every morning - handmade granola, made with the best natural ingredients. So delish with organic yoghurt!”

5. Redken Wind Blown Finishing Spray ($32 at PREP): “I love using this for my hair after a blowout. It gives my hair such great texture, with a lovely, soft matte finish.”

2014: A Year in PREP

Happy Holidays PREP-stars!

2014 has been an incredible year for us and we are thankful to reflect on the many key events and milestones that have taken place in the year.

The highlight of the year was turning one! We were blessed by the presence of friends, family, business partners and let’s not forget YOU, our PREP-stars, celebrating with us at our anniversary party. We celebrated in true PREP-style - beauty treats in the form of makeovers and manicures, plenty to eat and drink, an awesome photobooth and of course, fabulous hairdos.

Speaking of parties, you know we never say no to a great one. We had the fun and privilege of playing host to a couple of really great ones - from PREP-lette Nicole’s pretty pink-themed 9th birthday party to Isabel’s glamorous and gorgeous bachelorette party.

Mid-year wedding season saw our team creating a myriad of different soft, romantic styles to complement the beautiful gowns on display at the Oscar de la Renta bridal show and the Female Luxe Wedding show.

Our work with fashion partners like Kate Spade, Ted Baker, PHUONG MY, Saree Sense to name a few, really reflected the repertoire of our PREP stylists in creating hairstyles that perfectly set up the aesthetic expressions of the clothing designs. We also had the privilege of styling the hair of fashion luminaries at the Digital Fashion Week and were more than a little starstruck in the presence of the timelessly elegant and beautiful Carmen Dell’Orefice.

Last, and most certainly not least, 2014 would not have such a memorable and fantastic year if not for the support and patronage of our PREP-stars.

Thank you for surrendering and trusting your tresses to us and for just being generally amazing and sweet. We’re looking forward to another great year with you. Here’s wishing all of you a very blessed 2015, filled with joy, health and fab hair!

PREP X Saree Sense

Saree Sense‘s refreshing, modern take on the traditional saree truly embodies the unique Singaporean spirit of being both cosmopolitan and vibrant. The label doesn’t just see the saree as an item of adornment but as a canvas of artistic expression and an extension of a woman’s character and story. Each piece in their collection is a limited edition item, skilfully handcrafted, and marked by a breathtaking use of bold prints and vibrant colours.

The Saree Sense fashion show was held at the Esplanade Concourse on the 29th of November, at the Kalaa Utsavam - a week-long art festival celebrating Indian fine arts. Models paraded the beautiful pieces from its FW2014 collection, “Singapore Saree - Heritage Collection” against the musical backdrop of modern Indian classical music by The Tamarind Sound Project. PREP was invited to style the models’ and co-designers’ hair in a variety of gorgeous updos and sexy waves to complement the beautiful and vibrant sarees. It was an atmosphere that truly celebrated a collection that embodies the beautiful juxtaposition of tradition and modernity in Singapore.

Cosmo Fun Fearless Female Award 2014

Cosmopolitan Singapore held its Fun Fearless Females Awards 2014 in celebration of 12 spectacular (not to mention gorgeous) women who fly in the face of convention. Among this outstanding group of risk-takers and game-changers was our very own PREP co-founder Yishi. We are going to indulge in a little PREP-brag and say homegirl killed it. Yishi was crowned Cosmo’s Fun Fearless Female 2014 and we couldn’t be prouder of our hair heroine and gorgeous mama (Read her interview here).

PREP also had the pleasure of styling the locks of the 12 nominees for an evening of fun, bubbly and gorgeousness at the f.club, held in conjunction with Cosmo Singapore’s 3rd birthday. Twas a crazy fun night of both eye and edible candy - sexy bombshells parading sumptuous lingerie from La Senza, gorgeous male models in attendance, decadent desserts from Antoinette and delicious, sparkling Somersby cider.

Thanks Cosmo Singapore for having us and giving these awesome women a shoutout for the amazing work they do and the passion they stand for.
