What do you work as?
I’m an orthodontist with my own private practice (The Orthodontic Clinic), a part time tutor to the postgraduate orthodontic residency programme at NUS and a visiting consultant to the National Dental Centre, Toofdoctor Dental Surgeons and GPA Dental. I’m also the Vice President of the Association of Orthodontists (Singapore).

What are some of the best parts of your work that you look forward to?
Helping my patients achieve that beautiful smile they’ve always wanted. As braces treatments usually take 1-3 years to complete, I get the chance to really get to know my patients. It’s amazing to watch them grow up, especially if they started seeing me at a younger age.

What are some interests you have outside of work?
I attend regular Pilates classes. Most of my free time is definitely spent with my family, spending quality time with my son whenever I can, and catching up with good friends.

What makes you excited about these interests?
Pilates is great for strengthening your core and back, which is so important for us dentists. Personally, it’s very important that all mothers, not just working mothers, set aside time for themselves. Be it having tea with girlfriends, or getting your hair done at PREP, taking care of yourself restores the energy needed to cope with demands that parenting or work places on you.

What do you work as?
I write plays and screenplays, and sometimes I act.

What are some of the best parts of your work that you look forward to?
Being alone and talking to myself is great, but so is working with collaborators, crew, cast, and feeling like I’m part of a family that has come together to tell a story.

What are some interests you have outside of work?
Yoga, trying to keep up with my triathlete husband’s fitness regime. And I joined an improv comedy troupe in Shanghai called Zmack a few months ago. Improv comedy is suggestion-based theatre, so the format of each show might be the same, but the content is different, as it is based on suggestions the audience shouts out. My debut performance was in May at 789, a bar in Shanghai’s Le Meridien hotel.

What makes you excited about these interests?
It’s fun to rehearse, do impromptu scenes, and sing impromptu songs with my funny, talented teammates who come from various countries - the Philippines, France, the United States, Canada, Poland by way of the UK, Germany, the list goes on. I also joined Zmack’s Chinese-speaking team, and improvising scenes and song verses in Mandarin is hard! But it’s a good way to practice speaking Mandarin, and to expand my Mandarin vocabulary.

What do you work as?
I’m a freelance copywriter and fashion journalist.

What are some of the best parts of your work that you look forward to?
As a copywriter, the best parts of churning out an ad campaign is feeling the high of cracking an idea and then coming up with a great headline you and your client are happy about.
The best part of being a fashion journalist is interviewing talented designers that inspire me.

What are some interests you have outside of work?
I’m an avid backpacker. The path less travelled is the best way to learn more about the people and culture in any country. I’m also an amateur golfer. The perfectionist nature of the sport makes it really addictive.

What makes you excited about these interests?
All these interests require me to be fully immersed in the moment. Being able to toss daily work and the routined grind of life to the back of my mind makes me feel alive.

What do you work as?
I run a little design studio called Somewhere Else.

What are some of the best parts of your work that you look forward to?
Main thing about our job is that we’re doing different types of work everyday; maybe designing a logo today and working on a publication the next and because the clients are varied, the processes are ever changing. Many of our clients are also intelligent, brave and have unique viewpoints which can be very inspiring.

What are some interests you have outside of work?
I watch a lot of films and I try to read as much as I can in my free time. I used to cycle and play table tennis but because of the increasing work load, I find myself just eating and sitting around or watching films in my down time.

What makes you excited about these interests?
There’s a lot to learn from books and with good films, they present alternate perspectives and situations that usually challenge my preconception on life and a lot of times I find myself adopting some of these approaches and trying to infuse that into our work.
